MOOB NEWS: A certain alcoholic drink has been linked to man boobs

We all know that too much booze is bad for your waistline – but a certain alcoholic tipple could be causing your unwanted moobs.

Man boobs, known medically as gynecomastia, is a shockingly common condition that actually affects half of all men.

It’s down to a hormonal imbalance where men have more estrogen (the female hormone) than androgen (the male hormone).

But guzzling down IPA (India pale ale) beer cause cause your chest to grow because the hops contains phytoestrogens.

Phytoestrogens are compounds that naturally occur in plants but they behave like estrogen in the body.

“Men eventually have difficulty sustaining erection”

Stephen Harrod Buhner, herbalist

In fact phytoestrogens are even sometimes given to menopausal women to counter some of the symptoms like libido loss and hot flushes.

And if this news wasn’t enough to make you lay off the IPA, drinking the ale over a long period of time could lead to erectile dysfunction too.

Herbalist Stephen Harrod Buhner noted the shocking effect in his book Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers, published back in 1998.

He wrote: “After long-term exposure to the estrogenic properties of hops, men eventually have difficulty sustaining erection.”

If you are afflicted with some extra breast flab, you can tone up your torso in no time by making a few lifestyle tweaks.

Here is how you can get a flat chest in three simple steps:

1. Cut back on the booze

Not only does alcohol make you pile on the pounds because of its high calorie content, the drink can also giving you a wobbly chest.

Research published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics said that “alcohol intake produces a suppression of plasma testosterone”.

So lay off the sauce if you want to streamline your body.

2. Don’t diet

If you’re suffering from unwanted cleavage don’t make the mistake of massively cutting down on calories in a bid to shed fat.

Drastically restricting food intake will spell bad news for your boobs in the long run because it can reduce testosterone levels and kickstart “refeeding gynecomastia”.

This condition occurs when men deprive themselves of food and then return to a normal diet.

Stick to a healthy and nutritious diet to keep your pecs in check.

3. Tone up the torso

Flexing your chest in the gym can help to regulate your hormones and banish your man boobs.

Head to the weights area and perform some bench presses because these are great moob-busting moves.

Not only does a bench press hone your chest and work the pecs, it also boosts testosterone because it is a heavy resistance exercise.
