Self-confessed geek Michael Bridges always had a diet full of sugar and carbs.
Before his weight loss journey, the 33-year-old would eat everything “not-so-great” which made him hit the scales at 25st.
Then in 2017, he decided it all had to change and turned to his friend for some moral help.
After picking up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Michael has dropped an incredible 10st in weight.
“My Tinder profile is a lot more popular”
He told Men’s Health: “I was never really an athletic person. I started computer clubs in school. I was into computers when computers weren’t cool.
“It managed to get me a good career, but it was not doing much for me otherwise.”
The computer whizz tried and failed a number of times to lose weight, but it wasn’t until his marriage broke down when he decided something serious needed to change.
He began by cutting out processed foods, then tweaking his diet to add more vegetables and lean meats.
Although he lost weight in the process of altering his diet, Michael had to take it to another level – finding a workout that he enjoyed.
Michael added: “I wanted to figure out something for a workout. But, I hate the treadmill. I hate it. I even hated lifting weights because it’s boring.”
It all changed for him when his friend asked him if he wanted to join his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class.
He completed the 6-week course for $60 (£49) and fell in love with the sport.
Now Michael trains four to six days a week at his Jiu-Jitsu gym and maintains his weight loss by watching what he eats.
As well as this, he keeps his calorie intake to under 2,000 a day and limits his carbs to about 100g.
He concluded: “I used to be a very shy guy and now I’m just happy to be where I’m at.
“My Tinder profile is a lot more popular. I’m lucky, I’ve got a good girlfriend now, but yeah it was a lot more swipes in my direction.
“I think I’m going to live a long and happy life.”
