The Sirtfood diet involves cutting out toxic and processed food and drinks.

They are believed to protect the cells in the body from dying when they are under stress as well as regulate inflammation, metabolism and the ageing process.

Sirtuins are also thought to boost the body’s ability to burn fat and speed up metabolism.

This results in a seven pound weight loss a week, while maintaining muscle, according to the diet founders Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten.

The 10 most common sirtfoods are:

• Green tea

• Dark chocolate (at least 85%)

• Apples

• Citrus fruits

• Parsley

• Turmeric

• Kale

• Blueberries

• Capers

• Red Wine

How the Sirtfood diet works

The sirtfood diet is divided into two phases. The first one lasts a week and involves restricting calories to 1,000 for three days.

Each day you have to consume three sirtfood green guides and one meal rich is sirtfoods.

Juices can include kale, celery, rocket, parsley, green tea and lemon.

While a meal can include turkey, chicken, kale and capers.

From days four to seven, the calorie intake is increased to 1,500.
